Debrief 001 | [Action/Voice] | Déjà vu?

[Coulson wakes up, trees to his left and right and a path right in front of him. A short distance down the path and to the right he can see a house, actually he can see a few houses from where he is. Everything seems familiar.

The sensation of familiarity is disquieting at first, until everything comes back.

Well... that explains a lot.

Coulson looks around and spots his journal, but sadly there are no clothes this time. So he's stuck in the usual new feather garb of white pants. After being in dark suits for most of his life, he's not sure he likes those pants. With the nice new scar on his chest and back, he's not sure he likes the fact he's shirtless. Also, there is a chill in the air which makes being shirtless very uncomfortable.

Using the mountains and the river, both to his left, he manages to orient himself. With this knowledge he heads towards town center to visit the clothing shop and get dressed. You may run into him a he heads to the clothing shop. Feel free to notice the fresh looking scar almost directly over his heart (but not actually) and the bigger one on his back. Coulson may greet you, but mainly he's focusing on getting to the clothing shop. Unless things happen.]

((ooc; Location is over by House 4, just a short distance up the path leading towards the farmlands.))

[After getting clothes and after whatever adventures happen while he was getting clothing, Coulson puts together a first new post to the Luceti community.]

Greetings Luceti.

My name is Phil Coulson. I have been here before a few months back before... leaving and it seems I have returned.

As far as I know I don't have any unfinished business from before, but If I did have some with you please remind me.

I have probably missed a lot, but is there anyone whose willing to give me a brief summary of things I've missed? I'd be grateful.

[Small pause.]

I think that's all... No wait, Rogue, do you still need help at the item shop? Sorry for leaving you in the lurch.

No. [His voice is quiet] There are no ... satisfactory contingencies for that...

[But let's move away from that. Even if Coulson wasn't here for it, he still understands some of the pain it must have brought.

Coulson shrugs. There is a twinge of guilt that he wasn't here, that he couldn't do anything but he pushes it aside. Some things are beyond control and his departure was one of them. Even if it burns him to admit that.]

Good people never do. Still, I've trained for a lot of improbably things. Those skills could be handy here.

That's good to hear. Let me know if you need any help in spring. Admittedly, farming is not in my skill set, but I can be an extra pair of hands.

I guess it's a good thing we get to make up for lost time, huh?

You seem nice enough already! [Unless of course you have some kind of mutant bias. But that's one point seeming unlikely by the whole 'Rogue friendship'.] What do you do for fun?

Training can only go so far, when you're faced with a situation like that. But the sentiment is appreciated.

[Luke smiles tiredly, having a guess about what's going through Coulson's head. He knows how he'd feel, so he doesn't think its much of a stretch to guess that Phil feels similarly.]

Extra hands are always welcome. After seeing Vaskoth's farmland, it's made me think a bit bigger. Grains and corn are something I think we could manage. And that'd go a long way towards having stable food supplies not reliant on the Malnosso.

Pleasure is never an effort.

[It's for you to decide, if he means magic is sheer pleasure, or stabbing you. Whichever you choose will be wrong anyway.]

[Loki shrugs, though his expression becomes quite chilly.]

Best that the situation is understood. As little as I like the idea of a next time, I like less that someone wholly innocent might be caught in the fight again should that time come.

[Though he does follow up this statement with the thinnest of thin smiles.]

Oddly, I do appreciate there is someone on your side now who is capable of being pleasant and is not an utter fool.

[He cuts the video.]

Yes, that's true.

Why thank you. [No, nothing against mutants. Seems kind of silly to him to be scared or freaked out by people with extra abilities.]

Paperwork. [Is he joking? It's hard to tell.] I also read.

That is true.

[Coulson decides not to fall into that trap. Besides it was his pleasure to verbally pull the carpet out form under your feet, even for a short period of time and to blast you with the gun.]

[Okay. That sentence needs an explanation, but he's not getting that from you.]

I'm blushing. [Not really.]

[Such a sudden ending Loki. It's like you don't want to talk to him anymore. So sad.]

That is true.

[Coulson gives a small smile back. Then again, Luke has no idea how unconventional SHIELD training can be. But Zombies are always a sticky issue to deal with and even SHIELD hasn't written a decent contingency plan for that possibility.]

Grains are decent enough staple, though wheat is only good as long as we can mill it for flour. Corn has many uses, food-wise, so that's an excellent idea. Rice is good too, but I'm not sure what is needed to grow it. [He shrugs. Like he said, farming is not something he's trained in.]

A food supply which isn't reliant on the Malnosso would be good. There are too many things that can be done to food without outwardly affecting it. The fact that most of the food comes from a group of people who are content to experiment on us does not fill me with comfort.

[Then again, with shifts and everything even grown food could be tampered with.]

[No, Luke's got no idea what SHIELD is ready for, he just knows that not even the New Republic would be totally prepared for the possibility of a massive Rakghoul outbreak. But he shrugs off the worry and nods]

Well, I was leaning towards corn being the primary crop, with other vegetables as a second. Wheat, well, we're lacking a mill though we could always build one. Or make one in the Battle Dome and haul it from there. It's not an elegant solution, but a possible one.

Rice...well...from what I know? It's not something we've got the land for. It needs a swampier sort than we've got. Lot more water.

And yea, that's why I started the project in the first place. We didn't get food deliveries when we had the refugees, and it made things tense. If that happens again, I want us prepared with backup rations. It's better to work towards self-sufficiency where we can.

[And yea, he knows that, but he's willing to give the Malnosso a little bit of benefit of the doubt.]

Those are... some hobbies, man. But I guess someone's gotta like the paperwork. If I were still in high school, I'd probably use our friendship for evil.

[I's one thing for everyone to say that he fought alongside them to defeat Loki, it's one thing to say that he was brainwashed and unable to control his own actions (and it wasn't like that, not exactly), but all of that means nothing when he's confronted with the proof that he got his own people killed.

He sees the wince that Coulson tries to hide, how drawn he looks and steps forward instantly, dragging out a chair.]

Christ, Coulson, sit down.

[He manages a small smile at the joke, a bare curl of his lips.]

Shouldn't you be celebrating that I finally learned how to do formal, sir?

Oh, goody. Someone who actually appreciates his work. You don't know how many times I've been lectured on my career choices around here--by kids too!

Sheesh. You'd think that they'd have a little more respect!

[Desperate people, as they say.

And she is desperate.  Pepper doesn’t want to have to explain to someone else how she’d nearly died, and especially not to Phil.  He’d offered at the very beginning of his previous stay to show her how to use a tazer, and she’d refused.  Even if the weapon itself would’ve been useless, maybe Pepper could’ve reacted differently with that training.  So early on, Phil had recognized the danger Pepper could potentially be put in, and he’d tried to help her.  What would’ve changed if she had just let him?

But he promises later, and it’s something Pepper can cling to.  There’s a guilty wish that maybe someone else will explain what happened to him, so she doesn’t have to, but Pepper knows the thought is wrong and pushes it away quickly.]

No, I guess it doesn’t.  [But it had been a convenient way to change the topic.  Still, there are things Phil needs to be prepared for, and Pepper takes a slow breath.]  There were also some new arrivals shortly after you left.  Clint Barton’s here now.  You know him, right?

[He can probably tell from her tone that Clint isn’t the person she needs to tell him about most.]

[This place is just one big revolving door of familiar faces, isn't it? Not that Tony isn't glad. Coulson being here meant he was alive.

I suppose a 'welcome back' is in order. So there you have it: welcome back.

[And so, the next day, Rogue is betwixt the shelves and her music is playing a crashing of classical music and electric guitars because Apocalyptica is just fun sometimes, okay? It's at an appropriate background level, as it is more often than not, so Rogue hears the bell over the door and peers her head around the shelf.]

I've been okay. In fact...I have something of yours. [Yes. A very nice, subtle conversation change.]

Perhaps once we've both acclimated, I can hear a few of those not covered in red tape then?

[He seems to be someone who won't ping her "feels" which totally don't exist, so yes, talking. Also, they could discuss Barton who has been missing his CO and needs someone to watch him apparently.]

Essentially, that's correct. Or a Returned Feather, that would also be apt.

[No doubt about that. Even the craziness of Luceti beats the nothing he just came back from.]

[By this time Coulson realizes some seriously bad shit went down during the time he's been ...gone. The question is less idle and more genuinely concerned.]

I see. That seem to be the best idea. As for a mill, considering the limited resources of Luceti most of the ones I've seen wouldn't work. It's not a bad idea, but maybe for a bit father into the future. You can also mill corn, but I don't know how.

So Rice isn't a good idea. Good to know.

[Coulson winces. Oh dear. Refugees plus a suddenly cut off food supply? Tense is putting it mildly, at least from Coulson's experience with such things.]

Yes, self-sufficiency is always a good idea. Especially in an enclosed environment like this.

[Coulson is a bit more cynical about such things. Considering all the media scares about food in recent years, some of which having a slight bass in reality, who could blame him. Working for a super secret organization means being aware exactly how much the media is getting right and wrong.]

[After yesterday, somehow getting back into a relatively normal schedule so quickly is both a relief and slightly unreal.

Phil feels a bit out of step, but still manages a genuinely happy smile at the sight of Rogue. Good to know somethings haven't been changed by recent events.]

Rogue. Good to see you. [His smile grows a bit more amused.] I like the music today. [No, really, he does.]

[You are quite interesting a well.]

Well, I can't say I'd appreciate seeing his work first hand, but I do appreciate his skill. Kids tend to see the world a bit more black and white, so of course they think your career choice is wrong. Don't take it personally.

Respect can be hard to get sometimes. Especially if your job isn't particularly interesting or is something they see as wrong.

I would like that.

[Coulson never intentional pings on the "feels". He does it naturally. Discussing Barton could be very interesting. Give him new insight on ~~his favorite sniper~~ one of his best agents. Which would be very helpful indeed.]

[Every single one of Phil's internal alarms are quietly blaring. He really wishes he hadn't been sent back, so he could have been here. Could have helped.

Because it is becoming increasingly obvious that things went to hell very recently. And he wasn't there to help. That burns him inside, but he pushes it down.

This isn't the time for how he feels. Not yet.]

Yes. We worked together. [Phil's not quite sure how he feels about that news. On the plus side, someone from SHIELD who he can talk to. On the other side, Clint has never dealt well being confined. And Luceti is a giant goldfish bowl.

Peppers tone worries him even more. There is something about new arrivals which she is worried about.]

Pepper...[He wants to say, 'you don't have to tell me' but that would be false. Phil needs to know.] ...Who else arrived?

Well, work has always kept me pretty busy. Never developed too many hobbies. Oh, I guess collecting Captain America cards is a hobby... [He's never really though of it as one, but technically it is and he just realized that this very moment.] So there's that.

[Kurt's comment makes him laugh.]
